Perdomo built this line to mark a decade in business, and the Sun Grown expression shows exactly why the company lasted that long. This is a medium-strength Nicaraguan stick that relies on time rather than tricks: the reddish Cuban-seed wrapper spent six years in aging, followed by ten months resting in bourbon barrels. That barrel finish adds a layer of soft sweetness without turning the cigar into a flavored novelty.
Construction: The wrapper comes from Nicaraguan sun-grown tobacco, chosen for its natural oils and color. Inside, you'll find Cuban-seed Nicaraguan binder and filler, all aged extensively before rolling. Everything comes out of Tabacalera Perdomo in Esteli, where quality control stays tight across large production runs.
Flavor: The first third brings earthy spice with a bit of pepper on the retrohale. As you move into the second third, cedar becomes more prominent, joined by roasted nuts and a hint of cocoa. The final third is where the bourbon barrel aging shows up most clearly, adding a subtle sweetness that balances the wood and spice without overwhelming them. The finish stays clean and slightly sweet.
Pairings: Pour a bourbon with some age on it, something that mirrors the barrel notes in the tobacco. If you prefer coffee, a double espresso or a strong cold brew will contrast nicely with the sweetness and cut through the earthy base.
This works well as an after-dinner smoke when you want something substantial without going full-bore into heavy territory. The consistency across the line makes it a reliable choice when you need multiples for a group.
