The Liga Undercrown Maduro started as an in-house project at Drew Estate's factory. The master rollers who worked on the original Liga Privada lines wanted their own smoke for the rolling floor, something they could enjoy daily without depleting the limited tobaccos reserved for the flagship blends. What they came up with was good enough to become its own production line.
Construction: The wrapper is a Mexican San Andrés maduro leaf, oily and dark. Inside, you'll find a Connecticut Habano binder and a filler blend of Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan tobaccos. Everything rolls out of La Gran Fábrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua. The construction is consistent, with a solid draw and an even burn that holds a firm ash.
Flavor: This is a full-bodied smoke that opens with earth and leather, backed by a natural tobacco sweetness. As you move through the cigar, black pepper builds in the retrohale while cocoa and espresso notes come forward. The smoke stays creamy and dense throughout, with enough complexity to keep your attention without needing a flavor map to follow along.
Pairings: Dark roast coffee works well here, especially something with chocolate undertones. If you're reaching for spirits, try a peaty Islay scotch or a high-proof bourbon. The cigar has enough body to stand up to strong flavors without getting lost.
This is a solid choice for evening sessions when you want something with presence and depth. It rewards slow smoking and pairs well with quiet conversation or a good book.
